This is addressed to all the mothers in this forum..

Have you ever experienced sexual pleasure while nursing your child? I know some do, and it is not something to be ashamed of. But I just want to get a sense of how prevalent it is.

hey cole, the answer for me is yes, yes, yes. one of the most terrific things was "letting down" during an orgasm. it was a very incredible sensation. but after nursing each of my girls for about 18 months my nipples lost some sensativity. in the beginning pain, during the middle of their nursing about 4 months old, there were times when nursing was sexually arousing. that was years ago and my nipples are in fine working order now LOL. hope this helps.

Hi Dawn Marie,

Thank you for your kind response! I got a chance to do some research on my own last night. I would like to share my findings with all of you. :)

Regards,

Cole

Masters and Johnson talk about the eroticism of breast-feeding and the arousal that results in women:

“Women often become sexually aroused during nursing; some women even have orgasms in this fashion. Erotic arousal in this context can create reactions ranging from pleasure to guilt or fear. Interestingly, Masters and Johnson(1966) found that women who breast-feed their babies have considerably HIGHER sexual interest in the first three postpartum months than women who do not.”(Masters, Johnson, Kolodny, “Human Sexuality”, 1982)

Expert on childhood sexuality, Floyd Martinson, further elaborates on the physiological effects of breast-feeding and the possibility of both mother and child experiencing orgasm from it:

“The physiological responses to orgasm and to lactation are closely allied in nursing mothers. Uterine contractions occur during suckling and during sexual excitement. Nipple erection occurs during both. The observed increase in nipple length due to stimulation may lead to more effective suckling and even more stimulation for mother. The degree of milk ejection appears to be related to the degree of sexual response for some for some nursing mothers has been observed to occur during sexual excitement with an adult partner as well as while nursing.

“For some nursing mothers the nursing experience itself is sexually stimulating enough to carry them to the plateau level of sexual excitement and in some cases even to an orgasmic response(Kinsey et al. 1953; Masters and Johnson 1966). Some mothers experience serial orgasms and then drift into a refreshing slumber(Yates 1978). Regarding a baby’s physiological sexual responses to breast-feeding, babies possess a capacity for oral orgasm, a quivering of the lips and tongue in connection with breast-feeding followed by relaxation of the face into sleep. Oral orgasm can be frequent in occurrence during breast-feeding(Baker 1969). Baker observed that oral orgasm does appear to have a sharp peak similar to the genital orgasm during puberty.”(Floyd Martinson, “The Sexual Life of Children”)

Sheila Kitzinger, a world-renowned sexologist, affirms that breast-feeding is a sexual experience which has an “intensely sexual quality” which embarrasses and distresses some women. She elaborates on the complex emotions experienced by the mother:

“And here, too, reactions vary. One woman delights in the unexpected sexuality of breast-feeding. Another shies away from it because its sexuality confuses her and she feels that two ways in which she uses her body, which ought to be kept completely separate, are getting mixed and confused. This may even bring a sense of moral outrage and revulsion from physical contact with the child, as if the baby is responsible for seducing her.”(Sheila Kitzinger, “Woman’s Experience of Sex”, 1983)

Thus, despite what the puritanical moralists may say, mothers do derive sexual pleasure from their suckling child and breast-feeding is the first, and universally approved, sexual interaction between mother and child.

cole thanks for the info. it is all very true as far as my own wexual arousal. as far as the baby is concerned i know nothing of this, but i am sure there is some validity to it.

i personally enjoyed breastfeeding for many reasons, besides the sexual pleasure. i am actually trying to find out how to get my body into a lactation state again without being pregnant or being a nursing mother, just so my partner and i can enjoy the experience together. i think he will enjoy it very much too. like i said when i would orgasm i let down, which means that i would squirt mass amounts of milk during an orgasm. it was the most intense feeling. very pleasurable. and breastmilk is very swee, like honey so it is a great treat to your lover too. lol

if you find any info on how, women who are not nursing, can become lactating through hormone therapy let me know. i would like to find info on natural hormones though if they exist. thanks again.

I find this very intresting because just last week i was thinking about how one day if I have a baby i will probably enjoy nursing because I so enjoy having my nipples sucked... and I started to worry that if I get aroused by my baby's sucking... does that mean i'm being sexual with my child, i.e. incest?

a bit puzzled...
